Music…friend or foe?
Music has always been a very influential part of peoples lives. Music has a way of lifting up peoples spirits, helping them through tough times, making a good time better, or even just filling up them quietness in a room. Music has a way of getting to people, but it can be argued whether it is a good influence or a bad influence. People say that music about shootings and stealing and all of the other negative things have the same effect on people as violent television programs do. They are trying to make music out to be a bad thing, which takes away from the ability of artists to truely express themselves. By putting such a negative spin on music, it will cause people to not want to listen to it. mucis is supposed to be a way to express yourself. It is supposed to help you get out what you have to say, to help you take your life experiences and put them into words. Music is a safe haven for people, whether they are the ones writing it or listening to it. I know for me, music is my life. It gets me through tough times or can just put a smile on my face. Viewing music in a negative manner makes me angry because I don’t like the idea of not having that safe haven to turn to. Don’t get me wrong, I know that people are entitled to their own opinion, as I am entitled to mine, but the artists are entitled to theirs as well. Negative views of their music are like not letting them have thier opinion. you can’t take away their rights of expression, or their listener’s rights to enjoyment.

Whether it be movies or music I completely agree with freedom of expression. I’ve heard some rap music and such which talks about violence etc… They, the artists who write this music have the right to their voice being heard whether others agree with it or not. Music has a positive influence on people no matter the genre. People wanted Elvis censored back in the day because of his “moves”. I say live and let live.
